When a case of suspected academic misconduct is detected before a candidate has signed the authentication form:
the Head of ?Pupil Assessment will investigate.
The Head of Pupil Assessment will examine the evidence, interview the student, consult with the teacher, the Head of Department and the relevant Head of Year and students as appropriate and establish the nature and extent of the misconduct.
If, as a result of this investigation, the Head of ?Pupil Assessment and Head of Department are satisfied that no academic misconduct has taken place, no further action will be taken against the student and the student and the subject teacher will be informed as soon as possible.
Where the student admits to the academic misconduct, the Head of Pupil Assessment will
make a written record of the interview and request the student to sign the notes as representing an accurate record of the meeting. The Head of Pupil Assessment will decide the appropriate penalty in accordance with the previous practice, taking account of the extent of the misconduct, whether wilful deception was involved and the extent to which the assessment would have contributed to the final award.
The Head of Pupil Assessment will inform the Parent(s)/guardian(s) by letter of the decision.? ?The penalty for academic misconduct will include a disciplinary sanction, such as a Headmaster’s detention. Serious misconduct may lead to the student being given zero for that coursework/assessment and he may not be allowed to repeat it.
When a case of suspected academic misconduct is detected after a candidate has signed the authentication form:
The Head of Centre (Headmaster) must inform the examination board.
Some Example Decisions
Coursework contains some sentences copied form another candidate but there is no evidence of a continuous passage having been copied.
Candidate is given a written warning. He may be asked to rewrite the coursework with certain copied sentences removed. The mark given will be based on this new coursework.
Several continuous sentences copied in the evaluation section of coursework.
Candidate score zero for the evaluation and is required to remove this section.
?The whole of a section of course work has been copied.
Candidate is given zero for the entire piece of coursework.? Candidate may be withdrawn from the exam if the coursework forms a major part of the exam.
GCE resits may only take place in the summer.
Students are required to pay for any re-sits they request.

Malpractice in the Examination
It is very rare for instances of malpractice to occur during examinations and usually these occur unintentionally. Examples of such malpractice are; talking in the exam room; passing notes; bringing into the exam room any unauthorised materials, mobile phones, iWatches, iPods, mp3/4 players or potential technological/web enabled sources of information. If malpractice does occur then the Head of Pupil Assessment will carry out an investigation where the candidate and possible witnesses will be interviewed. The candidate will be allowed to make a written statement what will be included in the evidence presented to the relevant Examination Board. A copy of the form or letter sent to the Examination Board will be provided to the candidate. The Malpractice Committee of the Examination Board may then ask the Head of Centre to carry out further investigations of carry out one itself. The Head of Centre will inform the candidate of the decision of the Examination Board at the earliest opportunity. The Head of Centre can appeal against the decision but needs strong grounds to do so. The penalties for malpractice range from a written warning to being barred from taking any examinations for a set number of years.
The school has a duty “to report to the appropriate Awarding Body at her earliest opportunity all suspicions or actual incidents of malpractice. The only exception to this is malpractice discovered in coursework before the authentication forms have been signed by the candidate.
Access Arrangements in the Examination
Adjustments for candidates with disabilities and learning difficulties
Access arrangements are agreed before an assessment. They allow candidates/learners with special educational needs, disabilities or temporary injuries to:
- access the assessment;
- show what they know and can do without changing the demands of the assessment.
As subjects vary, leading to different demands of the candidate, support may be needed in just one or two subjects; another candidate may need support in all their subjects. The key principle is that the SENCo can show a history of support and provision within the centre. The arrangement is not suddenly being granted to the candidate at the time of his/her examinations.
The SENCo must work with teaching staff, support staff and exams office personnel to ensure that access arrangements are put in place for internal school tests, mock examinations and examinations.
If a candidate has never made use of the arrangement granted to him/her, e.g. 25% extra time or supervised rest breaks, then it is not his/her normal way of working. The arrangement should not be awarded for examinations. (The centre would have monitored the use of the arrangement in internal school tests and mock examinations.)
Please note that any request for access arrangements or additional information must be made directly to the SENCo.
Enquiries about Results
If a Head of Department makes an enquiry about a candidates exam result then the cost will be borne by the Department. If a candidate wishes for an enquiry to take place then they must make a written request and pay the cost of such an enquiry. All requests must be made within the appropriate deadline. No enquiries will be made after the deadlines set by the boards. It is not possible to make an enquiry about a unit taken in a previous series.
